Hello!  My name is Stanley Hanna.  I started working with wood in my father's carpentry shop when I was a child. Although I did not pursue woodworking as my vocation I always found myself drawn back to it.  The whiff of wood chips and sawdust can send me into fits of nostalgia.

In 2006 I saw a display of pens at a local woodworking supply store and the idea of making wooden pens intrigued me. I read up on the process and started to gather the necessary tools.  I already had a lathe in my shop but rarely used it. In January of 2007 I made my first pen and was hooked. The third person who saw that pen  bought it on the spot. I made more pens and tried different styles.  At the same time I discovered that there was quite an interest in them. Friends and acquaintances started ordering pens.  In the autumn of 2007 I partnered with a local store  to display a selection of my pens.  The launch of the display coupled with an article in the local community newspaper caused a lot of interest in the pens.

I have had a number of inquiries about the name for the business.  "Hunterwold" is also one of my creations.  My ancestry on my father's side includes the Hunter clan of Scotland, and "wold" is an ancient word for wood or woods.  The wedding of these two words creates a novel name for a unique business.

It is a real privilege to be able to take a natural material and create something that is at once beautiful as well as functional. I value the notion that each pen is "one-of-a-kind".

I reside with my wife Martha in Ottawa, Ontario.  We are parents to four adult children and one son-in-law, and grandparents to a wonderful boy.  We are also pseudo-grandparents to two chinchillas named Zippers and Sandy.
